Couples Counseling

Let’s be real, relationships and marriage are hard. And there is almost no pain felt quite as intensely and pervasively as the pain of a broken attachment with your partner.

Through personal and clinical experience I believe and have seen that healing and change is possible. Many couples are able to identify that there is a problem, yet despite thousands of books, blogs and podcasts on having a happy relationship, they are still unequipped to stop the destructive patterns of fighting and disconnection. If this is you, you’re not alone.

I have received training in both Restoration Therapy and EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) for couples, which focus on the science of adult attachment and bonding, repairing connection and safety in our intimate relationships.

Through our work together I help couples identify their “pain cycle,” the often unconscious hurts, wounds, shame-based beliefs and corresponding negative coping behaviors that unwittingly trigger our partner’s wounds and unfortunately exacerbate continued disconnection, distress and conflict. As these patterns are identified together, we will work toward healing, compassion and rebuilding love and connection.

For many, the process of entering into couples therapy can be discouraging and overwhelming, full of questions and concerns. Will this really help? I don’t want to just go and ‘stir the hornet’s nest,’ dredging up the past. What if the therapist just takes my partner’s side? When working with couples, I strive to ensure both parties feel heard, understood and respected, while keeping in constant focus the relationship itself as my client. If the relationship is nurtured and healthy, then everyone wins. That’s the goal.

No matter where you fall on the spectrum of need, whether you are seeking pre-marital counseling (I am certified in Prepare/Enrich) or are in crisis due to infidelity and/or sexual addiction, I would love to walk with the two of you into repair, deeper connection and healthy intimacy.
